A mid‑century piece reimagined with sustainable materials and precise upholstery.

This 1960s Greaves & Thomas Egg Chair, affectionately known as the “Strawberry Egg”, was reupholstered using traditional methods and finished in Kin — a jacquard fabric from Bute Fabrics’ Identity Collection. The swirling fingerprint pattern, designed with David Irwin, moves fluidly across the chair’s curved form. Ultraflex, a recycled polyester foam alternative, and a wool-mix layer were used to shape and refine the contour, supporting a more sustainable approach to mid-century restoration. The result is a piece that balances sculptural dynamism with responsible material choices.
